What happened?
After the Berlin Wall was construct it prevented East Germans from emigrating to the West, however it did not make it impossible. It was estimated that about 5,000 people made it across while about 200 died. At first it seemed simple; you could just throw a rope over and climb up. However, as the Berlin Wall became stronger and larger, it became much more of a complex plan to make it over the wall when guards began to take watch with guns. Eventually years later the Berlin Wall fell nearly just as suddenly as its rise. There began to be signs that the Communist side was weakening, although the East German Communist leaders agreed that East Germany needed a moderate change rather than that of a drastic change. East German citizens did not agreed with this plan. The construction of the wall prevented many people on boths sides of the wall to believe what they wanted and to have the rights that they wanted. Then suddenly on November 9, 1989, East German government official made an announcement that Berlin Wall will be taken down. The fall of the wall brought shock to many people, they did not believe that the border was actually open. Many people traveled towards the wall where they realized that the guards were allowing them through. Some began chipping at the wall with hammers and other tools. The Berlin Wall eventually was chipped away, and are now stored in museums. After the wall was completely down, East Germany and West Germany reunified into a single German state on October 3, 1990, when freedom was spread throughout all people.
